What do you think when the telephone rings? Do you feel happy because you think it is a friend calling? Frustration because it might be another telemarketer? Fear because it might be the school calling to tell you to come get your 8th grader as something has happened.
For me today it was option C. Nic's middle school had a student do something stupid today. Someone allegedly brought in some chemicals in a bottle and it exploded.
Sometimes this world is a crazy place, and I am thanking God that the injuries were few.
So FHE tonight is about choices. Our choices and how our choices affect us and others. And how some choices have life long altering results... I think that talk will go well with some chocolate chip ice cream - and now I'm blowing our healthy eating tonight. Oh well, sometimes certain conversations just need to be occompanied by ice cream!
Update:
We also talked about the phrase :" But for the grace of God go I."
I really wanted to help him understand that he can be upset and mad but it is not his job to be judge and jury. That he should feel sorry for this child and sad for the kids that were hurt. And thank god that he has parents that notice what goes on and that he can talk to and tell stuff too and a life that is relatively easy. Some children crave that and do things in hopes of getting that.

I so agree...about the certain talks belong with ice cream. But now you got me all curious about what happened...crazy what can happen at school!
A 9th grader brought a chemical "bomb" (chemicals in a soda bottle) to school and it exploded after being kicked on the ground outside. This happened at 8 to 830 in am on Monday. They called poison control after it happened and didn't call police or emt's for 2 hours! The kids weren't put on lock down until lunch time. I got a call at 130 to come pick Nic up as they were transporting all kids to the old campus. A lot of parents are very angry at the way it was handled - the school is saying they thought it was a science experiment and that's why they didn't rush to get EMT's and ambulence's. My problem with that is that it happened in the courtyard/basketball courts before First hour. What teacher is doing a science experiment prior to school and if they were wouldn't they have been with the kids and known exactly what was going on - it sounded to me like they made a lame excuse to cover themselves for not having a proper emergency response. 8 kids were burned from the chemicals and the child was arrested and is facing felony charges. Our poor kids - it is such a scary world for them. And the school has not addressed this with the kids AT ALL! Another opportunity missed to talk about what happened and use it as a teachable learning experience.
Better to cover it up than to learn from it seems to be the way of some schools this year! I am glad Nic is ok and you are such a good mom!
