Friday, February 17th, 2012 arrived. The day I would finally get to hold you in my arms! I was so excited! I couldn't wait to have you here! I was a little sad too, I loved feeling you kick and move inside me.
Your brothers Nic and Justin stayed home from school to help grandma Geri take care of William. We were all packed and heading out the door at noon. We got to the hospital at 1:00 but didn't need to be there until 130. So dad and I sat for a minute before walking inside to check-in.
We checked in at the desk and waited for them to call us back to pre-op. It took a bit and at 145 mommy got up to see if they had bumped us. But the receptionist said no they just build in extra time in case people are running late. Just a few more minutes passed and the nurse came for mommy. I had such butterflies in my stomach from being nervous and excited all at the same time!
We walked into pre-op mommy got into the gown and laid down. They asked a ton of questions and hooked you up to the heartbeat machine. You 2 were very uncooperative! We had to have 2 other nurses come in and hold a monitor on each of you as you 2 kept moving and they had to get 20 minutes of continuous monitoring. Mommy was getting so nervous! My blood pressure was going too high so when they did bloodwork they also tested me for preeclampsia. I kept telling them I was just nervous about the csection and getting you both here healthy. And that's all it was! The anesthesiologist came in to meet us and mommy's dr came to say hi. The dr had a student with her but mommy asked to not have her in the OR there was already so many people on there with 2 teams for you I just didn't want anyone else there.
Then it was time... Mommy had to walk, shaking scared all the way to the OR with the nurse and daddy! We left daddy outside the OR so mommy could be prepped and he kissed me goodbye.
In the OR there was a lot of people. You 2 had a charge nurse to share, 2 nurses each, a nicu dr each and they each had an assistant - 9 people in your corner wow! Mommy had the anesthesiologist the OR charge nurse, my dr, her assistant who we were told was an amazing stitcher, and 2 more nurses. Tons of people helping you enter this world safely! I am so grateful for each one of them!
Mommy got my spinal and the anesthesiologist waited for my body to numb. I was scared and kept saying I could feel him poke me and I could move my feet! He would poke my arm and say can you feel this? I would say yes and he would poke down my body can you feel this and I would say yes until he said no you can't feel it cause really poking you and your not saying ouch! Silly mommy! I was just scared! Then they called in daddy. He sat down by my head and we waited to hear the first cry. It was taking a little longer than my other 2 csections and I was getting worried. The anesthesiologist told us it was taking them a bit more time to get through the scar tissue. Then all of a sudden we heard it the most beautiful sound ever a baby cry at 4:05! We were expecting it to be Emma because she was head down and Jaxen was breach so they were taking Emma first. But Jaxen wanted to be first and when the dr got mommy opened Jaxen stuck his little feet out and said oh no! Me first, I'm the big brother! Then one minute later at 4:06 we heard another precious cry! Emma this was you! Mommy had tears falling from her eyes. I did remember to thank Heavenly Father while I stared into your corner watching everyone work over you. They also were wonderful with daddy and told him he could get up and take some pics. Daddy also trimmed both of your cords. It was tougher to cut then he remembered with William and Justin's. My dr was also great getting a bunch of info for me from the doctors and nurses taking care of you like your weights - you were both 5lbs 5 oz and heights were 19 inches for Jaxen and 18 1/2 inches for Emma. You both scored 9's on your apgars. You were both doing so well! I was so overjoyed and relieved! Dr P was so excited also!!!
Then the moment I had waited a lifetime for... They brought you one at a time over for mommy to say hi to and kiss. And then they put you both next to my head for a picture. It was pure heaven. Two beautiful healthy babies not being run out of the OR but actually being able to see and touch and kiss. So so many answered prayers!!!!
They then asked if we minded if they take the babies to get cleaned up while they finished up mommy and we said no. Daddy went with you to make sure everything continued to go well. Mommy finished getting sewn up and thankgoodness this time I experienced no nautiousness! Thankgoodness! The only thing that happened was that they lost a clamp. All of a sudden they were counting and the charge nurse did a recount. I remember the dr saying to call the peds team as she was positive she used 1 to clamp the cord. The nurse checked the bassinets and then called them. She waited for a return call got it and then rechecked the bassinets and finally found it! Dr. P said I told you it would be there and they all chuckled. Mommy sighed in relief! I was so afraid they would have to go searching my insides for it! Finally I was all stitched up and was on my way to recovery.
When I got to recovery daddy and both of you were still busy. You both had PKU tests done, you were given baths, checked all over again, had your sugars checked quite a few times, hep b shot given etc. They got me settled and I waited for just a little bit and the dr came to tell me you both looked perfect! Emma's sugar was a little lower than Jaxens, Emma's were 43 and Jaxens 47 so they were going to bring me her 1st to eat and finish up with Jaxen. And then they brought in my baby Emma! Emma you were so beautiful! Reddish blond hair perfect delicate baby girl features and they put you in my arms and my heart melted. I was so in love with you! My daughter my love! The nurse helped me get you latched on and you started breast feeding like a little champ! It was a little scary holding you, you are such a tiny little peanut! Then they brought in my Jaxen my 4th precious baby boy! My love! And my heart fell in love again! It's amazing how much my love just multiplied! It was an amazing wonderful feeling! Jaxen you have very masculine features. Lots of dark hair especially in the back. You are so handsome and mommy loves you so very much! You had a little harder time latching on and mommy worked with the lactation specialist everyday. They had me nursing and topping you both off with formula because you are both so small and also because they want your sugars to stay stable.
We got moved to a room about 730 or so. Daddy made sure we were comfortable and settled and also waited for Deanna to arrive. Daddy had to come home to be with your brothers overnight and Deanna was going to spend the night and help me take care of you! That first night was rough lots of pushing on my stomach and incission checks. Ouch! Lots of fluid, antibiotics and pitosin -3 bags to make sure my uterus contracted. Lots of pain meds and feeding my babies every 3 hours. Also about 1am the nurse had me get up and walk around the nurses station 2 times. We timed the pain meds to be working for the walk but ouch did it hurt but also helped me feel a bit better to.
In the morning about 10am the nurse helped me get up and she took out the catheter and the IV except for the port and helped me get cleaned and washed up. Then I got back in bed and waited for daddy to bring your brothers and grandma Geri up to meet you both. Your brothers were so excited to see you and hold you! They love you both so much! They stayed for quite awhile and then daddy brought everyone home. Saturday night we were on our own but our nurse was wonderful! She made sure mommy was doing okay and checked on me often! At 1am she came in and after she helped feed you both she offered to take you to the nurses station to hang out with her while I took a shower. She then took out the IV port and mommy got to shower and do her hair and get into my own pjs! I also had to soak my bandages real good and the nurse took off the big bandages when she came back with you. The shower was wonderful! I felt like a brand new person!
The 3 of us settled down for the night and Sunday daddy came back up to visit us, this time he left your brothers at home. We had a quiet day with daddy just loving and holding you! Monday we were hoping to go home! But we had to pass a couple hurdles! Mommy's blood pressure needed to stay low, you both needed to stay at or above 5 lbs - you little stinkers weighed exactly 5lbs 0 oz! And you needed to pass a carseat test. They brought you both to the special care nursery, hooked you to monitors and checked you for 1 hour. We all passed and were able to leave about 5pm. I was so excited to get you home babies! My family of 7 under 1 roof. My five children. My 4 sons and 1 daughter. I am so in love with all of you! Each one of you is an answered prayer! Each one of you is wanted, prayed for, special and loved beyond any imagination!

I am so glad everything went well for you. It is definately a trial when you don't get to bring your baby home - this is the first time we have experienced that. Your babies look wonderful, I am sure you are enjoying them. I hope that you have lots of help, and are finding time to sleep now and then. Take care.
