A BOY IS

TRUTH with dirt on his face,

BEAUTY with a cut on his finger,

WISDOM with bubble gum in his hair,

and theHOPE of the future with a
frog in his pocket.

LITTLE GIRLS

Little girls are made of daisies and butterflies and soft kitty cat purrs

And all the precious memories of times that once were.

Little girls are made of angel's wings and giggles and a firefly's glow

And all the happy feelings, deep inside, that we all know.

Little girls are made of cinnamon and bubbles and fancy white pearls

And snowflakes and rainbows and ballerina twirls.

Little girls are made of sunshine and cupcakes and fresh morning dew,

And these are the reasons, little one, why everyone loves you.

2 Months and 21 months!

Time is passing way too quickly!!!
Emma and Jaxen are 2 whole months today and William is 21 months!
Jaxen is 9.0 lbs and 21.5".  You are in the 25th% for height, weight and head size.
Emma is 8.4lbs and 20.25".  You are in the 10th% for height, weight and head size.

Emma you are starting to smile just a little bit and are really interested in what is going on around you. You wake up at night to eat and you and I usually fall asleep in the recliner. You are getting sooo big.
At your 2 month appt you got shots and your ears pierced.
Jaxen you are starting to be more aware of your surroundings and are staying awake for longer periods. You have such a strong little neck and can hold your head up really well. You have started to sleep 6 hours at night and mommy is so proud of you! At your 2 month appt you got your shots.
William you are getting teeth like crazy right now! I have to keep pulling out your baby book and updating it! You love to give Emma and Jaxen loves but are still very rough. You love playing with your brothers and taking trash to the garbage can. You are getting so big, you are wearing all 18 month clothes now.  You love to have Justin ride you around in the tractor just the way Nic use to do to him!

Easter 2012

Happy Easter Boys and Happy 1st Easter Emma and Jaxen!
William you had a great time hunting for eggs with Justin this year. Last year you were still too little but this year you had a blast! It was great fun until you decided that the eggs were "balls" and screamed ball and threw it. Then out popped the candy and you were just in awe! Of course mommy said no more chocolate in eggs when you started popping it right in your mouth and drooling chocolate all over!

Justin you of course had a blast and were super excited almost jumping out of your skin waiting for everyone to get up and move! Then you were so excited to show William how to hunt for eggs and were frustrated with him at how slow he was and how he constantly got distracted! The big hit for the 2 of you were light up bouncy balls. So cool!

Nic was too old to hunt for eggs per him so he hid them all for the boys. He was excited to get all 3 of the Hunger Games books and has already finished the 1st one - although I did give the 1st one to him early so he could start reading for AR points for school.

Alex and I just tried to survive through all the chaos and excitement while being tired. I think we were still stuffing eggs at midnight and taking care of babies in between stuffing. I took the easy way this year and we ate a frozen lasagna we had made before the babies came and I bought garlic bread and dip and veggies. We made a frozen apple pie and although it greatly pained me, I knew I was just not up to making cookies, so I bought the already made and you just decorate cookies. They were a hit and the kids still had fun with them.

Life

Life is TOUGH!
It is absolutely wonderful having 5 children but it is VERY TOUGH! Much tougher than I thought!
The sleep deprivation is hard. Emma and Jaxen seem to wake at the same time and want to be held ALL the time. Which I LOVE! I have always been one to want to hold my babies 24/7! However with 2 babies plus a 1 year old I am struggling. I want to hold my babies so badly every minute and find that during the day they are in the pack n play too much so I can do things for William and protect them from Willia

I love my 1 year old Sooo much but oh my gosh is he jealous of the babies. He wants to be held when I hold them. He wants to poke and help burp and love and hold and even pick them up and share toys. I know this will pass and we are just in a major adjustment stage.

I struggle also with hearing the babies cry. I know this is just gong to have to happen. I am one person home most of the time by myself. I know they are going to have to cry. It just breaks my heart to hear them cry the whole time I am feeding the other one. And I can't have the other one on my lap too as I need one hand to protect them from William's over loving them while they eat.

Making dinner is virtually impossible! Sooo after a whole lot of fast food I have a new game plan. We have a monthly menu now with lots of casseroles, crockpot meals , and some sandwich nights thrown in. On the weekend I try and make something big like a turkey breast or ham or spaghetti sauce that can be used thru the week in casseroles. Hopefully this will work.

People do ask to help, it's just hard to accept help. I have a ton of food, I should be able to find time to cook it! And really I have such a hard time when I know there are others needing help more than me. And it's hard to know when I'll have a tough day or a great day.

Hit 5:00 around here and I think most people would run away like crazy. The babies are fussy, William wants to be held until bedtime the boys just want to eat and act crazy teasing each others - just NUTS! Now I now why after dinner my parents would close the door of the den watch the news and leave us girls to clean up after dinner - oh my the chaos that dinner time and after bring!

I know that the craziness shall pass and I will yearn to have it back. So while I am going through the craziness I am just going to try and enjoy it as much as I can and mantain a little of my sanity. Because I truly love these children more than words can ever say!

Grandma and Grandpa's Visit

Grandma and Grandpa Versteeg were here from February 27th to March 30th. They were such a wonderful help taking William in the mornings, getting Justin to school, taking Nic driving, helping with babies, doing housework and keeping the kids entertained. I miss their help so.... much and wish they were still here helping!

Sleep deprived mommy loving her babies!

My Aunt Jean and Uncle Herb came out from Colorado to see my dad and the new babies! It was so wonderful to see them!

1 Month Old

Jaxen and Emma
I am not sure how it is possible but you are 1 whole month old. You share your 1 month birthday with St. Patricks day. How fun!
You still both eat and sleep a lot! You are starting to stare at mommy more and show me your big blue eyes!
Emma you are still such a peanut! You love to stare all around and I think you look a lot like me! I love you so much my precious daughter!
Jaxen you are getting so big! If I had to guess I think you might be a whole pound bigger than Emma. You love to gaze around and have such a serious look on your face. I always wonder what you are contemplating! I love you so much my youngest son!

Justin Tonsil Surgery

Justin you had your tonsil's and adnoids removed on Thursday, March 15th. You were a CHAMP! The night before surgery you started complaining about your throat hurting and when I checked it, it looked like strep again. I was concerned they wouldn't do surgery, but they did.
Mommy stayed home to take care of your little brothers and sister and daddy took you. It was really hard on mommy to not be there with you! But, I wanted to make sure you got the attention you needed and it would be hard if the babies started crying.
You got to chose your scents for the mask - strawberry and watermelon. After you were asleep they put in your IV. When you woke up you were in and out of it. You would sit up real fast, look at daddy and then lay down and go back to sleep. You did that quite a few times but the nurse said that was normal. The doctor said you had the grossest biggest tonsils of the day!
You stayed after surgery for 1.5 hours and then headed home. They used a water laser to remove your tonsils and said your pain would really kick in on day 3. You were really hard to keep still when you first came home and wanted to eat real food. But we keep pushing cold juice, otters and soup. You slept in with dad and I your first night home. You and Grandma have been working on arts and crafts today and that is kind of keeping you quiet.
